Pediatric Dentistry
We love to see children at Smile Rx Dental!
We begin seeing infants at age 1. On the babies first visit and toddler visits, Dr. Khan will:
- Examine the teeth for any decay
- Look for any abnormality in teeth, eruption, gums
- Brush teeth with toothpaste and a soft bristle brush -apply fluoride varnish to protect the teeth from decay
- Advise on any harmful habits such as thumb sucking, finger sucking, pacifiers
- Counsel parent about how to properly brush and take care of infants gums/teeth
- Counsel parent on diet advisable for good oral health and assess harmful dietary habits that are present
- Address any other concerns such as teething, eruption timeline etc.
- Provide you with a personalized Smile Rx prescription (plan)for your child’s dental health including what type of toothpaste to use
Procedures performed on children include:
Fillings, cleanings, sealants, extractions, expanders, orthodontic appliances, braces, mouthguards
Dr. Khan’s Experience in Pediatric Dentistry
If she was not a dentist then Dr. Khan would have been a school teacher.
She really loves kids and enjoys teaching them. She has a lot of experience in making children comfortable during their dental procedures. She is very gentle and takes her time and explains steps to children in a friendly manner.
Dr Khan has over 14 years of experience working on children. She started her career treating children with medicaid at the Anne Arundel county health department. She has also screened and treated patients in head start schools in AA county. She volunteered with Operation Smile in Vietnam where she treated close to 100 children in need. She continues to make pediatric dentistry a large part of her own practice at Smile Rx Dental. Dr Kumar has also adopted the same philosophy and is well versed at treating the pediatric population.
She has taken numerous continuing education courses in pediatric dentistry including a mini pediatric dentistry residency. She will try her best to make your child comfortable during their visit. Parents are always allowed in the back with their children.
